Greek folk band Hainides have kept alive with love and respect the music tradition from their home, Crete . During their live performances they blend their own songs with new arrangements of traditional music from Turkey, Afghanistan and Bulgaria. Their success has paved the way for young artists to embrace the Cretan musical tradition and enrich it with new elements.
The band was founded in 1990 by a group of friends, most of whom studied at the University of Crete. Hainides includes: Dimitris Apostolakis (Cretan lyra, vocals), Spiridoula Baka (vocals), Dimitris Zaharioudakis (acoustic guitar, vocals), Michalis Nikopoulos (lute, bouzouki and vocals), Alexis Nonis (bass guitar), Panagiotis Kanelos (drums) Konstantinos Pitsiolis (clarinet and bagpipes) and Athanasios Gkikas (sound).
