Eva Pyrnokoki’s Observatorium – Listen On Demand

Eva Pyrnokoki & Observatorium on Hellas Pindakaas – Greek performance artist Eva Pyrnokoki finds herself in motion after the Venice International Performance Art Week in 2017. This October she will perform Observatorium for the first time in Amsterdam. Observatorium will be performed on Friday 12, Saturday 13 and Sunday 14 October from 8 PM at Dokzaal, Plantage Dok: Plantage Doklaan 8-12, Amsterdam.

This performance raises pivotal questions about hidden social and political constraints, as it assembles bodily movement with live soundscapes and a video installation to evoke questions about asphyxiation, oppressive systems, transformation, choices and social denial. All movements and gestures in the performance are interconnected with the live music and a video on the background. To create a specific atmosphere for each chapter, Pyrnokoki collaborated with music composer Simone Giacomini and cinematographer Gabriella Gerolemou.

After the performance, the audience is invited for a discussion and Q&A. To discuss not only the social, political and philosophical themes that derive from the performance, but also, to dive deeper into the specific theme of dystopia. Other artists, philosophers and scientists are invited to join the discussion.

‘Observatorium’ werpt belangrijke vragen op over verborgen sociale en politieke inperkingen in ons
leven. Deze performance is nu voor het eerst te zien in Amsterdam.

Na de Venice International Performance Art Week in 2017 komt Observatorium van de Griekse performance kunstenares Eva Pyrnokoki nu naar Amsterdam. In Observatorium wordt lichaamsbeweging gecombineerd met een ingenieus weefsel van live soundscapes en een levensgrote videoprojectie. De performance roept vragen op over de verstikking die we dagelijks voelen en vaak niet weten te duiden, over onderdrukkende politieke en sociale systemen, over transformatie, keuzes en ontkenning.

De performance bestaat uit zeven hoofdstukken. Alle bewegingen en gebaren in de performance
staan in verbinding met de livemuziek van componist/musicus Simone Giacomini en de video op de
achtergrond van cineast Gabriella Gerolemou. Zo ontstaat per hoofdstuk een specifieke sfeer.

Observatorium zit vol met expressie, transformaties, ironie, poëtische beelden en een duister gevoel
voor humor. In de video volgen we een goudvis die door allerlei emotionele fasen gaat, in de beperkte
omgeving van zijn viskom. Is het mogelijk om te ontsnappen? Met deze metafoor stelt Pyrnokoki de
vraag: Leven we in onze eigen viskom zonder kwesties als autoriteit, sociale patronen, cultureel
gedrag of zelfs ons eigen bestaan in twijfel te trekken? En voelen we niet continu de druk om gelukkig
te moeten zijn in deze uiterst gereguleerde omgeving?

Na de voorstelling wordt het publiek uitgenodigd voor een discussie en Q&A. Niet alleen de sociale,
politieke en filosofische thema’s die voortkomen uit Observatorium worden besproken, maar er wordt
ook dieper ingegaan op het specifieke thema: dystopie. Andere kunstenaars, filosofen en
wetenschappers worden uitgenodigd om aan de discussie deel te nemen.

Observatorium wordt uitgevoerd op vrijdag 12, zaterdag 13 en zondag 14 oktober vanaf 20:00 uur in
Dokzaal, Plantage Dok: Plantage Doklaan 8-12, te Amsterdam.
