As citizens of the fictional war-torn nation Westeros, the cast of Game of Thrones have seen a fair amount of pain and strife. But that’s nothing compared to what’s happening for real in Syria right now. So HBO and Game of Thrones have launched the #RealmToTheRescue campaign in conjunction with the International Rescue Committee to bring attention to the hardships facing refugees fleeing that country for safer ground.
Lena Headey, Maisie Williams, Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, and Sophie Turner are among the cast members who lend their face and voice to this recently-released PSA encouraging viewers to donate to the IRC’s various programs aimed at easing the suffering of Syrian refugees. According to reports, the campaign will last for the duration of the show’s sixth season and has the target goal of raising $1 million. In addition to the IRC’s official website, Rescue.org, viewers can also donate via the fundraising site Omaze.com, where they’ll be entered to win tickets to the Season 6 premiere and after party in Los Angeles. Because what’s a better reward for a good deed than sharing a drink with Cersei?
